Helping With Your Path Forward
Niigaan Miikaans Law Office
Meet Angel Larkman
My name is Angel Larkman, and I am a proud member of Matachewan First Nation and a licensed Ontario lawyer. With 20 years of experience in the legal industry, I have worked in various capacities, including assisting with coordinating and leading in the creation of an Indigenous human rights clinic in Ottawa.
I founded Niigaan Miikaans Law to provide legal support focused on real solutions that respect and honour every individual’s path forward. My approach is rooted in the values of the Medicine Wheel, offering legal services that consider your emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical well-being. My practice is intentionally structured to avoid unnecessary courtroom battles, except in child protection matters, where I firmly believe in supporting Indigenous families and preventing the separation of children from their families and communities.

Child Protection Law
Full Litigation Services Focused on Keeping Families Together
At Niigaan Miikaans Law, our child protection practice provides full litigation services and we accept Legal Aid Certificates for these matters. Our mission is to provide compassionate and culturally appropriate legal services that support Indigenous families and help children stay connected to their communities.
If a child and family services agency (such as Kunuwanimano or NEOFACS) contacts your family, you do not have to sign any documents before consulting with a lawyer. We strongly encourage families to reach out to Legal Aid Ontario and then contact us promptly. Early legal support can make a significant difference in protecting your rights and preserving family connections.
In-person child protection services are available across Northeastern Ontario.

Pricing
How much does it cost?
Legal fees often come as an unexpected expense during challenging times. Deciding whether to get legal help early to avoid more complex issues can be tough, and we understand that. Due to the unique nature of each case and family, we can’t guarantee how much your matter will cost, but we can work with you to find a way to afford legal help.
Niigaan Miikaans Law typically bills hourly at $200/hour (in 6-minute increments), aligning with Law Society recommendations. However, for straightforward matters like uncontested divorces or Wills, we offer flat-rate fees. For instance, a simple primary Will with two power of attorneys is $450, and we provide discounts for secondary or mirror Wills for spouses.
Some of our other flat rates are as follows:
- Simple estates with a Will: valued less than $100,000, and no disputes are $1000 (plus filing fee)
- Simple estates without a Will: valued less than $100,000, and no disputes are $1500 (plus filing fee).
- Uncontested Applications for Guardianship, Adoption, and Divorce are $1200 (plus filing fee).
For limited scope matters billed at the hourly rate, initial retainers typically range from $1,500 to $5,000. Retainers are deposits for future legal fees. As we work on your case, we’ll bill against this deposit. We’ll send you regular invoices so you’re always aware of the services provided and your current costs.
Our goal is to keep you fully informed about your legal fees every step of the way, preventing any surprises.
